2019 드래프트는 퀄리티 있는 내야수가 모든 포지션에 존재한다고 합니다. 하지만 최고의 투수 자원이 있냐고 물어본다면 대답하지 못할 정도로 야수쪽에 치우친 언밸런스한 드래프트라고 합니다. MLB Pipeline의 드래프트 TOP 50 유망주 명단도 이런 점을 반영되어 1위부터 6위까지 야수들이 위치해있습니다. 여태껏 1위부터 5위까지 모두 야수가 지명된 해는 저스틴 업튼, 알렉스 고든, 제프 클레멘트, 라이언 짐머맨, 라이언 브론이 차례로 지명됬던 2005년 드래프트가 유일하다고 합니다. 21세기 이후 2005년만큼 야수들이 강력한 드래프트가 바로 2019년 드래프트라고 합니다.
한 아메리칸 리그 스카우팅 디렉터는 “만약 Top 투수 유망주를 찾는다면 올해는 best year은 아니며 대학 투수쪽은 더더욱 아니다. 확실히 여름 내내 지켜봤을 때 지난 몇 년 동안의 드래프트를 능가할 정도로 야수쪽 유망주들은 뛰어나다. 투수와 야수쪽 유망주들의 차이는 매우 크다.”
각 구단에게 설문조사를 했을 때 2019년의 Top tier 유망주로 1~2명의 이견이 있을 수 있지만 대체로 대학 월드시리즈에서 Most Outstanding Player 상을 수상했으며 플러스 파워를 이용할 줄 알고 강한 어깨와 함께 퀄리티 있는 포구 능력을 갖춘 Oregan State 포수 애들리 러츠맨(Adley Rutschman). 1985년 전체 3픽으로 지명된 바비 위트의 아들이며 올스타게임에서 열린 고등학교 홈런 더비에서 우승한 유격수 바비 위트 주니어(Bobby Witt Jr.), .402/.531/.819 의 타격 성적으로 존 컨트롤, 배럴 타구 생산 능력이 탁월한 캘리포니아 1루수 앤드류 본(Andrew Vaughn)을 뽑았다고 합니다.
이 3명의 Top Tier 다음엔 아주 방대한 뎁스를 가지고 있는데 대졸 포수 Shea Langeliers, 파이브 툴 슬리퍼 Kameron Misner, 타격 포텐셜이 상당한 3루수 Josh Jung, 반더빌트 외야수 J.J Bleday, 노스 캐롤라이나 1루수 Michael Busch가 그 뒤를 잇는다고 합니다. 스카우트들은 매년 대졸 유격수가 부족해서 아쉬워 했는데 올해는 UNLV's (Bryson Stott), Texas A&M's (Braden Shewmake), Auburn's (Will Holland), N.C. State's (Will Wilson) and Clemson's (Logan Davidson)이 1라운드에서 지명될 후보라고 합니다.
카터 스튜어트(Carter Stewart)는 이미 베스트 커브볼과 높은 회전수로 알려져 있는데 작년에 자신을 괴롭혔던 손목 부상의 정도를 두고 애틀란타와 이견이 발생해서 끝내 계약하지 못하고 봄 학기에 Eastern Florida State Junior college에 등록할 예정이라고 합니다.
스튜어트 말고는 대학교 투수 중에 누가 Top arms 인지 확실하진 않다고 합니다. 아마 Duke 대학의 좌완 Graeme Stinson과 켄터키의 잭 톰슨(Zack Tompson), Texas Christian의 닉 루돌로(Nick Lodolo) 가 후보라고 합니다. 구단들은 고딩 투수들이 리스크가 매우 크다고 생각하지만 Brennan Malone, Daniel Espino, Matthew Allan이 고딩 투수 중 Top Tier가 될 것이라고 합니다. 올스타 출신 Al Leiter의 아들 잭 레이터는 가장 세련된 고등학교 투수이며 투웨이 스타인 스펜서 존스(Spencer Jones)는 베스트 좌완 투수이며 업사이드가 매우 크다고 합니다.

다저스는 내년에 1라운드 25, 31픽, 2라운드 66, 82픽(추정치)를 활용할 수 있기 때문에 이 중에 1~2명은 지명할 것 같습니다. 작년 이맘때쯤 TOP 50 명단을 체크해봤는데 1라운드에 17명, 2라운드에 9명, 3라운드에 5명, 4라운드에 6명, 5라운드에 3명이 지명됬습니다. 드래프트가 있을 6월 3일까지 6개월이나 남았기 때문에 앞으로 순위에 많은 변동이 있어서 크게 의미는 없겠지만 19년 드래프트가 대충 이런 정도다만 알고 넘어가면 될 것 같네요.
